3D printing and additive manufacturing challenge conventional print workflows

Cambridge, UK, 27 Mar 2018

Fernando Rodriguez discusses the challenges faced by printer manufacturers in emerging inkjet applications at the IDTechEx Show! 2018

Meteor Inkjet Ltd’s head of research, Fernando Rodriguez, will present some of the challenges faced by printer manufacturers in emerging inkjet applications and explore how these challenges affect the requirements for inkjet datapaths at the IDTechEx Show! in Berlin, 11 – 12th April 2018. The IDTechEx Show! is a showcase for the latest emerging technologies including 3D printing, electric vehicles, energy harvesting, energy storage, graphene, the internet of things, off grid energy independence, printed electronics, sensors and wearable technology.

In his talk Fernando will discuss how the digital datapath for conventional inkjet printing, as it is commonly used in graphics and arts applications, has to perform three critical functions: image colour translation and separation; image halftoning for optical density linearisation; and mapping to translate computer images into precise locations on the print media.

Fernando comments: “Emerging new capabilities in conventional printing, 3D printing and additive manufacturing are challenging our understanding of the printing process. New inkjet printing applications require datapaths and workflows that are fundamentally more dynamic in their ability to process new types of data, print over a wider range of media, be resilient to nozzle failure and variations in drop size across a head, and adapt to changes in the printing system. My presentation will explore some of these challenges and how they might affect the requirements for existing and future datapath solutions for inkjet printing applications.”

Fernando’s talk will take place on Thursday, 12th April at 16:50 hrs. For more information visit: https://www.idtechex.com/europe2018/show/en/
