Technical Support Engineer (Japan)

The Role:

Meteor Inkjet Ltd is seeking an engineer to provide technical support to its customers in Japan.

With headquarters near Cambridge, England, Meteor develops and sells the electronics and software used to drive industrial inkjet printheads. Meteor’s customers are manufacturers of industrial digital printers serving a wide range of markets such as textile printing, ceramic tile printing, labelling, 3D printing, digital product decoration and document printing. With a long-established reputation in the development, supply and support of reliable, high-performance products, Meteor has secured a significant share of this global market and enjoys a loyal and growing customer base. Meteor offers regional customer support from the UK, USA, China and Japan.

Meteor seeks an engineer with an understanding of inkjet printing systems and a competent approach to dealing with customers. The engineer’s responsibilities will include site visits to assist customers in the configuration and use of Meteor products as well as responding to support requests by email. Additionally, the engineer will attend pre-sales meetings together with sales colleagues. Five of the top seven industrial inkjet print head companies are based in Japan (Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Ricoh, Seiko Instruments, and Toshiba TEC) and the engineer will be required to represent Meteor in technical meetings with these companies.

A critical requirement of the role will be to liaise with the Meteor’s UK Headquarters so English language competency is essential.


The job is based in Japan, most likely in Tokyo though other locations can be considered. Travel to the UK will be required 1-3 times per year for periods lasting from 2 to 4 weeks.

Skills and Qualifications:

The candidate must have a proactive and confident attitude to problem solving and should be self-motivated, adaptable and practical.

The candidate should meet the following requirements:
• A degree in physics or engineering
• Experience with inkjet printing systems
• Good customer-facing skills
• Japanese language (native level)
• English language (fluent level)

The candidate should ideally also have some of the following:
• Some experience with digital electronics
• Experience of safe working practice around 3rd party electrical systems and complex industrial equipment
• Ability to use electronic test equipment such as oscilloscope, multimeters, etc.
