Senior Software Engineer

The Role:

Meteor Inkjet Ltd is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its world-wide industrial inkjet electronics and software business. 

Meteor develops and sells the electronics and software used to drive industrial inkjet printheads from companies including FujiFilm Dimatix, Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Ricoh, Seiko Instruments, Toshiba TEC and Xaar. Meteor’s customers are manufacturers of digital printers serving a wide range of markets such as textile printing, ceramic tile printing, labelling, 3D printing, digital product decoration and more.  With a long-established reputation in the development, supply and support of reliable, high-performance products, Meteor has secured a significant share of this global market and enjoys a loyal and growing customer base.

To help reduce customers’ time-to-market, Meteor also supplies custom and semi-custom application-level software.  In support of this, Meteor seeks an experienced software developer with project management and high-level software design experience in addition to reliable and efficient coding skills.  Reporting to Meteor’s Head of Software Development, the Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for designing software to meet customer and in-house requirements, writing software, manging software projects, mentoring and developing junior software engineers and maintaining and reviewing the existing code base to propose and develop new solutions. 


The job is based at Meteor’s headquarters near Cambridge.  International travel to the USA, Europe, Mainland China and other destinations within the Asia-Pacific region may be required to establish requirements and assist customers in deploying products.

Skills and Qualifications:

The candidate must have a proactive and confident attitude to problem solving and should be self-motivated, adaptable and practical.  The ability to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues is critical.

The candidate should meet the following requirements:

  • A good degree (2:1 or 1st) in a science or engineering subject
  • A thorough understanding of object-oriented principles
  • Experience of developing software for Windows
  • Experience with C++ and C#
  • Ability to manage software projects

The candidate should ideally also have some of the following:

  • Experience with unit test frameworks
  • Familiarity with version control systems
  • Familiarity with network protocols
  • Experience with real-time systems
  • Experience of developing software for Linux
