Product Manager - Software

The Role:

Meteor Inkjet Ltd is seeking a Product Manager for its software business. This is a new position, created in response to sustained business growth and product line expansion.

Meteor Inkjet Ltd is the world’s leading independent supplier of electronics, software, tools and services for industrial inkjet. The company’s products drive printers in a wide range of markets including graphics, packaging, textiles and product decoration. The Product Manager will be responsible for guiding the success of Meteor’s software product portfolio with focus on the company’s own Digital Front End (DFE) products for single-pass systems. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a friendly, fast-paced, international environment made up of colleagues with can-do attitudes.

The role will include:

  • Translating the company’s business strategy into product strategy for single-pass markets
  • Owning the product roadmap for Meteor’s industrial Digital Front Ends
  • Working closely with the development team, the sales team, the marketing team and the quality team, to execute product strategy and ensure the voice of customer is central to all decisions
  • Developing and maintaining a priority list of new features, validated against customer request, competitive offering, development workload and revenue potential
  • Driving action throughout the organisation to get the right products to market, at the right time
  • Planning and executing product launches
  • Creating product plans which incorporate beta trial processes and successive check points to qualify features and usability
  • Feeding the marketing team insights on key differentiators, the voice of the customer, key messages and the competition
  • Determining pricing strategy together with the sales team
  • Working with the development team on feature definition, lead time and pre-launch testing strategies
  • Managing product profitability and commercial success – “owning the business case”
  • Creating training plans for sales and support teams
  • Sharing information internally about products, markets and competition in support of Meteor’s open culture of communication
  • Attending tradeshows, visiting customers and managing customers’ feature requests

Location:

The job is based at Meteor’s headquarters at Harston, near Cambridge. World-wide travel is required.

Skills and Qualifications:

The candidate must be:

  • Degree-qualified in a science, computer technology, engineering or mathematics “STEM” subject
  • Legally entitled to live and work in the UK
  • Able to obtain visas for visiting EU, USA and China


The candidate should ideally also have:

  • Commercial, tactical and practical knowledge of Digital Front Ends for inkjet printing (including markets, pricing, competition, features and customer needs)
  • Practical knowledge of RIPs, colour management, pre-press workflow and finishing workflow
  • At least 3 years’ experience in product management for a business-to-business digital printing product line
  • More than 3 years of extensive world-wide business travel or 6 years of occasional business travel
  • Excellent written and spoken English including the ability to write pieces of publication quality
  • Conversational skills in another language (Chinese, Japanese, German, Italian)
  • Confidence and skill at influencing and communicating across all functions and levels of an organisation
  • Good interpersonal and teamworking skills
  • Fastidious attention to detail
